The imposition of economic blockade by the United States government is both direct and active as the aim of this drastic gradation is to place direct pressure on the Cuban government to change its political system. All countries depend on trade and the United States is a mesomorphic trading partner with states such as Florida a stone throw away. The author also indicates that demise of socialist economic system in the Soviet inwardness has also had a devastating though indirect impact on Cuba because of the preferential trade agreements which the government of Cuba had with the Soviet bloc. This is indirect and passive because it is by dint of the direct promotion of democracy in the Soviet Union that led to changes in the political economic system on Cuba.
